Extinguishing system: On duty for Schneider Umweltservice AG

In November 2021, the management of the Swiss company Schneider Umweltservice AG decided to use the innovative extinguishing turbine technology from EmiControls for the new central site in Volketswil Hard (CH). This is activated and controlled by the early fire detection system from ORGLMEISTER infrared systems.

Mainly commercial waste is delivered to the site in question, automatically separated into recyclable materials in the new sorting plant and then reassembled for reuse. As the Swiss company is aware of its important role towards the environment and its responsibility for future generations, it has limited itself to the use of construction materials made from recycled materials for the new recycling plant. This is part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

The extinguishing turbines from EmiControls and the detection cameras from ORGLMEISTER monitor and protect the input area and the storage boxes for sorted recyclable materials, as well as the storage and sorting area for wood. A deluge system, which is activated by a PYROsmart® one detection camera, ensures the operation of the recyclables sorting system, the heart of the recycling plant.

The necessary water supply is ensured by an extinguishing water tank and a pump container in the immediate vicinity of the extinguishing system.

Overview of the extinguishing system components:

• 2x FT10e firefighting turbines
• 2x scanning PYROsmart® pro detection cameras from ORGLMEISTER infrared systems for the storage areas
• 1x PYROsmart® one for conveyor belt monitoring with deluge system
• 1x PumpContainer
• 1x frost-proof extinguishing water tank with a capacity of 100 m³

According to Managing Director Rico Sommerhalder, the automatic extinguishing system has often reacted early and reliably to fire incidents over the past two years.

For this reason, the management of Schneider Umweltservice AG has decided to equip a total of four further locations with the proven fire protection technology in order to ensure the smooth and continuous operation of the recycling plants there as well.

Recently, we were also given the opportunity to organize a fire protection event with a real fire test at the Schneider Umweltservice AG premises in Volketswil (CH). An incipient fire was started, which was then immediately extinguished (see video below).
