Forest Fire Tests: our Firefighting Turbine in Sardinia and Calabria
The hot temperatures and the lack of rainfall in summer 2017 have caused fires in large parts of Italy. Many hectares of land were destroyed and many people were threatened as a result. With the help of the revolutionary MFT35-H firefighting turbine, the aim is to get fires under control faster in the future.
EmiControls versatile firefighting turbine was installed on 4 × 4 trucks and brought to Sardinia and Calabria in August for testing. The turbine is equipped with a nozzle ring which atomizes water and extinguishing foam into fine aerosols and distributes them by means of a propeller. As soon as the fine water mist touches the flames, they are immediately subdued.
The advantage of this technique is that much less water is needed, as the fire can be combated more efficiently and a higher cooling capacity is achieved. Particularly in the case of forest fires, water deficiency is always a big problem.
The tests were very positive. By attaching the turbine to the 4 × 4 trucks, servicemen can get to the fire sources as quickly as possible, even in rough terrain, and prevent further encroachments quickly.
